I simply must share this awesome song I just found on BoingBoing.net!

Bompata by the Ghanaian composer, W. J. Akyeampong, as performed in 1975 by post office workers using everyday items and their work tools to cancel stamps at the University of Accra post office in Accra, Ghana.

Yes, it was a pass/fail test for a Jumpmaster. I'll get one more shot at it. Any landing you walk away from is good, but some jumps are certainly better than others! And don't believe that bullshit about "a perfectly good airplane." There's always something broke!

Figure I'm probably carrying about 100lbs of gear once I get my body armor, ammo, rifle, radio(s), batteries, water, etc packed in. Maybe a little less if I carry only what I need to survive and fight for 3 days, but it depends on the mission, and ammo, water, and batteries are heavy. After that, the T-10D parachute is 21lbs, the SLCP MIRPS is another 15lbs (might not even carry that if the combat jump is low enough--won't have time to use it even if something goes wrong), the M1950 weapons case is 5lbs, etc. It adds up quickly, that's for sure. Plus, since the main parachute is on your back, the ruck has to be carried as shown in the action figure picture below, which is hell on your back.

Oy, the Jack Johnson cover sounds fantastic!

Great work.
Hey, thanks, man! It's probably my favorite recording out of all the ones I've made so far. Not necessarily my favorite song, just the favorite final product.

In reply to BigVig, #20:

Which one? The 3 lives one? We don't really have a clearly laid out explanation as to what happens after death aside from "Your soul comes back after death." So there is a lot of room to say whatever you want about it.
I just took it as a joke.

It's also supposed to be something of a rule of thumb that once you commit to becoming enlightened it takes at least 7 lifetimes to achieve the goal.

You have to brief them on everywhere you go?

Yes indeed we do; if we don't, and they catch us, we can get sent home (though usually there's a sort of probation, and then if you do it again you get home). Luckily, the chances of getting caught are extremely low, unless you're in Yerevan (the capital city), so most of the time I just don't tell them where I'm going, either because I forget, because I'm leaving my site a lot in a particular month (they don't like that) for whatever reason, or because I just don't feel like telling them.

Basically, if you ever miss the feeling of being treated like a teenager or a child, join Peace Corps.

Glad you liked House to House. It's a hard book to read when you know guys who were KIA there.

By the way, David Bellavia has a blog that frequently has good posts. davidbellavia.com/
