Oh yeah.I totally forgot to tell you about my weekend in New York.Soooooooo... Thursday night: I left around 9:00 for the airport, and our flight was at 10:45. I packed a camera, but I left my bag behind our car, because the trunk was locked, and my dad left a bit earlier to drop my little sister off at a friends house (she wasn't coming with us). I intended to put it in the car before he went anywhere, but my mom was taking forever to pack (as per the usual), so I was trying to rush her when I remembered I left my bag out behind the car. Suffice to say, my dad ran over my bag, and broke the lens of my mom's camera, which I intended to use a lot in new york. I now need to buy a new lens, because despite my mom's inefficiency and my dad running over it, it's my fault just for putting it in my suitcase, when I lacked any other packing option. Friday Morning: Didn't sleep a wink on the Red-Eye flight. New York time: About 7:00 in the morning. We got to my parent's hotel, left our stuff, and I toured broadway and times square. I love it. I didn't want to leave new york. Then we met up with my brother (who lives in Brooklyn), and saw In The Heights on broadway, which was a pretty good show. The music was ok, the story was kind of predictable, but the singing was fantastic, the choreography was amazing, and the lighting was incredible. That night, I went with my brother back to his place in Brooklyn, because I was staying there all weekend. I hit the sack at 2:00 in the morning. Saturday: Woke up, ate eggs, left the apartment. While waiting for a subway to take us back to Manhattan, I enjoyed this conversation that was taking place between two homeless people. I giggled. And my giggles were like that of a school girl. It was raining a little bit, and really windy, so my mom, who hates being wet, was unable to stay dry. I'm almost certain the umbrella is broken now. The streets were littered with other people's broken umbrellas. We got sushi. Really good sushi. And expensive, but that's not important. I also had quite a bit of sake. We then left for Carnegie Hall, where my high school's choir was singing (that was the whole reason for the trip My sister is in the choir). It was a spectacular performance. The singing was beautiful. The music was beautiful. Carnegie Hall was beautiful. Afterwards, My brother took me to Greenwich Village. PArtly to play a game called "Spot the Drunken NYU Student", partly to get into a jazz club/bar, and have a few drinks. Yes, I know. I'm only 17. Yes, it was illegal. No, I don't care. I was spending quality time with my only brother, who I may not see again for quite some time. I didn't get drunk. Not even close. I did get buzzed, and it was odd, since I had never had alcohol (in this quantity) before. I was unbalanced, and a little dizzy, but it felt cool. Don't think I'll be doing that again for a looong time, though. We got back to brooklyn around 2:00 in the morning. Again. We stopped at a fried chicken place. Everyone in there was black, but it's not that extraordinary, since most people in Brooklyn are. But anyways, this fried chicken place smelled delicious. Extremely delicious. We ordered our food, got out of there, and ate it in his apartment. It had no taste. At all. And HE KNEW THAT THE WHOLE TIME. HE DIDNT TELL ME UNTIL I TOOK MY FIRST BITE. TASTELESS. I covered it in Ranch. So I basically just had ranch for dinner. at 2:00 in the morning. Waste of 4 dollars. Sunday: Woke up, didn't realize that daylight savings time had gone into effect the night before until about 9:00. Err... I mean 10:00. Went to bget some breakfast with my parents, sister, and some family I didnt know that turned out to have met my family at the church they went to that morning. I didn't learn this until long afterwards. We got on the subway back to Brooklyn, and I picked up my suitcase. We got a cab to take us back to the hotel my parents stayed at all weekend to pick up their luggage, so we could get to the airport. We were running late and hitting traffic. We arrived there 20 minutes before the plane was scheduled to take off, and check in for that flight had closed ( my mom couldn't get her giant suitcase into the carry-on. I don't know why she packed so damn much. We were there for THREE DAYS). BUt when I got the the airplane, they were telling everyone that still had bags to get on the plane that there was absolutely NO room left in the overhead compartments. The plane was packed. They put our bags with the check-in bags. We got on the plane JUST as it was supposed to depart. Then they announced that the captain got stuck in traffic. WE took off an hour and a half later. TL;DR Version: New York is awesome. I want to live there. |
