Ok, so we just moved and we're getting lost. A lot. Google Earth and maps.google.com can only help so much.

We're saying to hoy with it and getting a GPS.

I'm thinking about the Magellan RoadMate 300 - has anyone used it? What do you think?

No, I'm not getting a Garmin 'cause I don't like usage fees.

In reply to Rental01, #1:

My friend has what appears to be the same or very similar version (UK not USA though, obviously). It is pretty good, got us out of Silverstone when we couldn't and found the hotel around a bizarre one way system that would have given us hours of hell.

My friend has only had trouble with it on housing estates, where there are many turns in a short space of time, at which point it struggles to keep up and just confuses the driver. Other than that though, he hasn't had any complaints.

Hmm... It's starting to sound better. I got lost going to the warehouse club on Sunday. Google Maps said it was 20 minutes away. Why then did it take me 2 hours?

Bah!

I have an older Magellan that I like alot. Just remeber to get what YOU want, not what a sales person thinks they can sell you.

That's why I'm posting here and researching as much as I can. I'm down to the 300 but I want to know if anyone has had a bad experience with them.

I've actually found that a current copy of M$'s Streets & Trips works well. I use it for finding customer sites, and when I travel. You can even buy a version with a USB GPS module that you can stick to your windshield, although I keep forgetting to bring the GPS when I travel.

M$ GPS module = $120 or so from Sams Club.

They're on sale.

You're getting lost in a new city? You don't need GPS, you need a Mapsco street map. Best $20 I spent after I moved to Austin.

I have a couple - they still don't help much when all the directions in the world lead you to a place that apparently doesn't exist.
