I'm sure most of you know about Bungie releasing the Marathon Trilogy for free....

Well here's how to get it.

OK, first of all, download Aleph One

Next, scoot on over to The Trilogy Release and download your version.

They have Both PC and Mac versions

download your game. Downloading for OSX can be difficult......

For Mac make sure you download the full packages for both of these which are linked to the right of the picture of the Bob. When they finish downloading, you will now have two new folders - Marathon 2 ƒ and Marathon Infinity ƒ. In each of these folders, place a copy of the Aleph One application (to copy Aleph One, click on the Aleph One application's icon, then go to the File menu and select "Duplicate"). You can now play Marathon 2 and Marathon Infinity natively in Mac OS X, no Classic involved.

Marathon 1 is slightly more difficult, but only just. Marathon 1 uses a different game engine to Marathon 2 and Marathon Infinity, so it's not compatible with Aleph One. However, Raul Bonilla rectified this situation by creating M1A1, a complete port of Marathon 1 to the Aleph One engine. Download it from the second section from the bottom on this page. When it's finished downloading, everything should be sorted already - I'm pretty sure there's already Aleph One included in the package. If not, no big deal - just place another copy of A1 into the folder.

Overall it's much simpler with windows...

Just drop in the Marathon files into the Aleph One folder.

Enjoy!

I keep getting this error when I try to extract Marathon:

If it's an unknown error than why does it have the label of "3"...

okay first off, I made a mistake with the Trilogy release link. I put THE into it. Sorry.

Okay so your using windows.......hm...I never had that error......Are you donwloading from the files next to the BOB, or are you downloading the complete files underneath the A1 windows/under the bob on the right hand side.

If you keep getting an error, try downloading all of the individual files, and then just add in A1.

oh and by the way dude, *.sit files only work in mac-os, you need to get the files lower on the page that are in .zip format.

Oh, almost forgot.

If your having trouble with the game music, such as when M2:Durandal starts a kick ass rock song is supposed to play. If it does not, search around in the A1 website and find the file repair thing. it converts it to a playable file.

If you head over to the Aleph One site you can pick up a texture enhancement pack for the graphics, make em a bit higher res.

I'm suprised no one jumped into this thread accusing folks of committing illegal acts yet.

So I'll pre-emptively inform them that this is, for lack of better term, legal. It is certainly not illegal, because Bungie has given permission to distribute the Marathon games.

Hm.....you use Linux correct?........this could be tough.....

I know they have a A1 for linux......but I don't know if they are compatible with windows files...or mac files...

I'm going to do a bit of research, see if they have any for Linux.........or something that works for your situation...

unless of course you actually are still using windows......which in case it's exactly how I said. Plus the website and the website for Aleph one both have FAQs if your having any trouble....

just give me some time to figure it all out...

In my personal opinion, Don't touch alephone will a 100 foot pole. I wish I knew why bungie decided it was a good idea to point people to a port that the developers don't really care about any bugs you have on your system and continue to balance multiplayer to perfection.

Would the legit Mac Cd version of the Marathon Trilogy work with Aleph 1? I bought it even though I don't have a Mac, just because I could, it has all three Marathon games and a bunch of maps and other stuff I'm not sure about because the disc won't work in my PC... oh... I think I just answered my own question

Okay first off

lord baz, could you please explain the context of your complaint? I have no clue what your whining about. From what I've gathered the A1 team has constantly worked to make A1 as non-buggy as possible. They aren't going to change the gameplay, sicne they're happy with it. Just like all the other Marathon fans. If you think something is that wrong, why don't you got fix it yourself.

Spacemot....

I'm sorry to tell you this but The disc set of the marathon trilogy won't work with A1.....But on the bright side you either A. Have some classic mac softeware, and very few technical issues....

Or B. you have an awsome coaster.

Oh and for Linux,

Download the Linux A1 off of the A1 website, and put it in the same folder as the windows (or mac files)

try that and see if it works.....

More research is required....(just after I finish playing the level "total carnage")

If you have the Marathon Infinity disc...you probably know about this, but I'll mention it anyway.

When you put it into your CD-Drive, open the disc in an AUDIO PLAYER instead.

The 2nd track is the theme song. The 3rd track is a secret song (that I found hilarious once you play the game).

I'm trying to find an mp3 of the third song for those who don't have the CD...but so far no luck...
