On January 6, 2000 a group of musicians and music-loving technologists came together with the idea of creating the most comprehensive analysis of music ever. [the music genome project]
Pandora is a music discovery service designed to help you find and enjoy music that you'll love. It's powered by the Music Genome Project, the most comprehensive analysis of music ever undertaken. Just tell us one of your favorite songs or artists and we'll launch a streaming station to explore that part of the music universe.
It's a simple concept, a free, dynamic music service, aimed at providing you music you'll truly enjoy based user input.
Why is it different from other streaming radio stations you can listen to? The content is totally decided by you. And in addition, you aren't limited to bands you've already heard of, but it creates a huge list of recommended music which it automatically plays on your radio station based on a complex analysis of each song. Don't like a song? Tell Pandora, and Pandora will stop playing songs similar to that one. Love a song? Tell Pandora and it'll play more songs that are similar to it. Heard a new band you really like? Tell Pandora about it, and it'll add more recomendations based on complex analysis of that band's music.
Hardly. Unlike lastfm, Pandora is actually based on what the music sounds like not jsut who listens to or buys it. In addition, Pandora is totally independant of downloaded players. You listen to it right off the site, so theres no updating your client. And with trayit! you can minimize the window to your system tray even, so you dont run the risk of closing it, etc. =)
In addition, Pandoras music classification isnt based on the opinions of little kids who dont understand music. =)
Doesn't matter anymore, I discovered a way to sign up. Either way, a message came up that said (something like) "We hope you enjoy the service, however, all we ask for you to continue listening is register, and we'll get you back to your music." It wouldn't let me past that window, so I had to register.
Uh, it gave me the song Wonderlust when I typed in Megadeth...It's by far one of their worst songs ever. Then it went on to say monster magnet sounds like Megadeth. It's cool that it's analytical and whatnot, but being that anal about structures, and key signaures, and the type of scales used means nothing about a song in the long run. And now it gave me Peace Sells, supposidly from Rude Awakening, but really it's just the original album version.... So far I'm not impressed in the least.
Put in a particular song you like. When it gives me pop songs on my Acid Bath station, I just tell it to STFU and play some more "Dope Fiend" esque songs.
give it time to develop. that farther along you get, the more you'll like it (likely). If you keep tellnig it if you like songs or dont likes songs, it'll eventually get a picture of what you like. You can even ask it WHY it's playing a certain song. =P If you don't like it still, hey, sorry it's not for you. I hope you find something you DO like.
holy crap. i just found this website and i can't stop listening to it. it's everything i ever wanted from a radio. so far its only given me one song i didn't like. i recomend this site to any music lover.
