Alright, since their is a thread for Comic Book's and Comic Movies, I figured we could use one for Comic Book Video Games. With six upcoming ones i can think of being the Marvel MMORPG, the DC MMORPG, X-3 The Last Stand Video Game, DC All Stars and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and Superman Returns (Free Roaming), I figured it deserved it's own thread, but that is on top of games like The INcredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction, Spider-Man 2, Ultime Spider-Man and X-Men Legends. So with some screen from Marvel Ultimate Alliance.
Over 140 Marvel characters come together in Activision, Inc’s. (Nasdaq: ATVI) Marvel™: Ultimate Alliance, an all-new action/RPG that features the largest roster of comic book characters ever seen in a video game. Players assume the roles of more than 20 Marvel Super Heroes including Spider-Man, Wolverine, Blade and Captain America, and through their actions determine the fate of both planet Earth and the Marvel universe – revealed in one of multiple epilogues.
“Marvel: Ultimate Alliance delivers a new twist on action/RPGs where players’ actions and choices ultimately determine what happens to the Marvel universe,” states Will Kassoy, Vice President of Global Brand Management for Activision. “This coupled with the game’s enormous character roster will deliver an action-packed experience that comic book fans have been waiting for.”
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance features a deep, rich gameplay experience by offering total team customization, where players create their own team name, icon and vehicle, as well as establish their team reputation as they play throughout the story. Gamers also have the option to level up each character individually to their liking, or all team members at the same time to keep their heroes balanced. With the game’s new combat system, players battle against the world’s most notorious Marvel Super Villains in the air, underwater, and on the ground, using grappling, blocking and dodging moves, by charging up their Super Hero powers before unleashing them, and using environmental objects as one and two-handed weapons.
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance features a unique storyline where the missions players accept, the objectives they complete, and their interactions with other characters throughout the game directly impact how the story plays out. The game also features a robust multiplayer component where fans can band together with friends as their favorite Marvel Super Heroes, and fight evil in both on and offline cooperative story modes. There’s also a Competitive Mode where the game tracks various in-game stats so players can see how well they stack up against one another – affecting the amount of experience points earned and how equipment is distributed.
Created by Raven Software and C.B. Cebulski, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance will be the first Super Hero game out for all next-gen gaming systems, and will also be available on current-gen, handheld and PC platforms. The game is currently rated RP (Rating Pending) by the ESRB and is planned to ship this fall.
The Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction, Spider-Man 2, Ultime Spider-Man and X-Men Legends 1 and 2 all kicked degrees of ass! Ultimate Destruction being the best one yet...those pix look funkin awesome! I hope it's a single player game instead since the MMORPG won't allow you to play with Iron Man, Cap, Thor, Spider-Man or any other known hero..it'll be a City of Heroes game set in the Marvel Universe...which doesn't appeal to me as much as playing with the classic heroes.
I didn't here that you wouldn't be able to use the popular guys in the MMORPG, but I think I am still looking forward to it. Although I hated X-Men Legends....both of them.
Honestly it makes sense with the popularity of City of Heros. Imagine having real superheros*Get it?*. Well I wouldn't be surprised if an MMORPG would go well. I mean it's really hard to make a crappy MMO. Have levels experience etc....Simple to design.....But Comic books/Movie games somehow manage to screw up somehow*Don't even get me started on MMORPG*.
I am due to the fact that in City of Heroes you make a knock off hero with the Flash's powers, or Bishop's powers, or anyone else really.
So in a Marvel MMO I doubt you'd get to pick the Marvel heroes and instead you'll go to a create a screen...so they'll be a shit load of Wolverine knock offs, Spider-Man knock offs, Hulk knock offs. That sorta thing...like on Matrix Online...walk down the street and count the screen names which have these words in it..."One" "Neo" NeotehOne" in it....you won't be able to keep up. (yes I played that shitty game...had a Morpheus clone...he was the cool character in the Matrix movies)
Why would they rock the boat? The MMO's are selling like hotcakes right now. Clones of the heroes that's what we'll get which is why I'm not such a fan of MMO's. Give me a solid story and some single play with a multiplay side. Like Halo (i know big difference) but in Halo you can play single play, get a story, some bosses, test yourself against machine...and then when that's done frag people online. THAT'S FUN.
MMO's aren't that fun. And a console MMO will prolly be short with few side quests, where you'll get quests from the Marvel characters while you yourself plays someone you make up out of 1 of 20 powers, and 1 of 30 skins and clothes.
If they DO let you pick actual characters from the comics...play as Cyclops you'll be the only one and thus unique. And when those 7 year olds online talk to their friends at school they'll talk about the fact that their Wolverine group teamed up with Cyclops...you'll be a legend! Until people start copying you and then everyone's a Cyclops..then you can Gambit! And the cycle continues....
Dr Doom...you know when City of Vill-I mean...Marvel Villians comes out.
Or Magneto...but they won't make him as powerful as he really is...think about tearing up a city with itself! Blocking attacks with cars, sending skyscrapers on top of your enemies....why have the X-Men always beaten Magneto?
I know, I just hopeing for a good doom, I haven't seen on in well........................................... I guess it would be that short lived FF cartoon in the 90's, but thats about it.
also In that first pic, is the guy with the flaming skull supposed to be ghostrider, blazing skull (invaders basically ghost rider rip off ) or someone else???
also I was looking at the Capt. America in the first pic looks like the ultimate costume. God I hate it when they try to mix Ultimate with classic. I know Ultimate costumes are cool but I don't want to see them mixed stories it's annoying as hell.
I think that is Ghost Rider and I can't tell if that is Ultimate or not due to the lighting, but I can say is I want one good game from each hero that is not Ultimate at all.
I love CoH, and I am sure when MArvels and DC MMO come out, you will be able to make your own characters, which of course measn there will be thousands of copycats....I will, ofcourse make my own character...unless I can play Cyclops!
I so wished USM was good. Visually it was, but there far too many flaws. Random stoppings for loading, the sound problems, targeting, combat, Venom, imba chase sequences.
But if it is somewhere for a few quid, I would pick it up just to web swing.
