Ok, I've looked everywhere and can't find a fix for my problem.

I'm running Windows XP Media Edition and have the latest version of Windows Media Player. Well, for a while now, everytime I try to play an .avi movie file, this box pops up after Window Media Player loads:

It tries to load this OpenMG Secure Module, but always comes up with that error, and ultimately won't play my video.

Does anyone know how I can solve this issue?

Thanks,
Dopp

Has this been happeneing since you got windows xp media or after the fact?
I'm guessing that you have avi's in Divx or Xvid format, have you loaded the codec for these recently?

www.download.com/DivX-for-Windows-with-DivX-Player/3000-2194_4-10543670.html?tag=lst-0-3

www.download.com/XviD-Media-Codec/3000-2140_4-10542542.html?tag=lst-0-2

try loading the codecs first... then run your movie file... otherwise... we can chat later

That didn't seem to work, man. But I did find this:

support.microsoft.com/kb/887811/

I downloaded the update or whatever, but it said that it was an older update and wasn't necessary. I own a Sony Vaio, so this problem pertains to me. It wasn't doing this the entire time I had the computer, only pretty recently.

I've done some reasearch, some people say reinstall media player.

I also found this:
support.connect.com/rightnow/File_download/OpenMg%20Secure%20Module.msi

I'll try to reinstall Media Player, but I've installed the new version of WMP after I started seeing that.

When I tried to click the downloaded icon I get this error message:

"This installation cannot be run by directly launching the MSI package. You must run setup.exe."

I can't find setup.exe!

So you think I need to uninstall the WMP I have?

Meh, why not? It's not like it's going to take forever anymore. I'll try that and see how it works.

UGH! Can't install that version because I have 11. You think I should reinstall that one. I can't find where to uninstall it because it's not on the list of Remove Programs...

God, I wish I knew more about software!!!

I did find 3 OpenMG files on my computer and 2 I've never heard of. I tried to uninstall one, but wouldn't work, said there was an error.

ARGH!!!

This is the link to 11....

MS may have changed how to remove media player. It may be under Add/Remove Windows Components.

I don't have media edition xp. hopefully this will help.

Sorry I haven't checked this in a while, but I went to Add/Remove Windows Components and my dumb ass unchecked everything but WMP because I misread the directions! That's right, I no longer have a DVD player and CD Burner and Internet Explorer...

I'm just going to take it to Best Buy now and have then reinstall all that stuff.
