National Treasure: The Book of Secrets is a 2007 sequel to the 2004 film National Treasure. It will be directed by Jon Turteltaub and written primarily by Gregory Poirier. As of January 27, 2006, several producers have been listed, including Jerry Bruckheimer, Oren Aviv, Chad Oman, and Charles Segars.

It was stated in the first film's commentary that there were no plans for a sequel, but, due to the first film's impressive box-office performance, an earning of $347.5 million worldwide, a sequel was given the go-ahead in 2005.

According to Jerry Bruckheimer, filming began on January 1, 2007, and the film will be released on December 21, 2007.

PLOT
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer said in July 2006 that the sequel involves Abraham Lincoln, John Wilkes Booth, eighteen missing pages from Booth's diary, and a surprise ending. On November 15th, Disney Enterprises registered two domain names for National Treasure 2 that give a clue as to what the sequel's subtitle might be. The company bought the names NationalTreasure2TheBookofSecrets.com and TheBookofSecretsNationalTreasure2.com. They have yet to be created.

"The Book of Secrets" makes sense, considering that producer Jerry Bruckheimer said in July 2006 that the sequel involves Abraham Lincoln, John Wilkes Booth and eighteen pages which are actually missing from Booth's diary.

Bruckheimer also said, "This is a wonderful jumping off point for NT1, and Nicolas Cage is very excited about it."

Loved the first one, can't wait for the second.

I hope Sean Bean's character somehow breaks out of prison or something to pursue the rivalry with Cage's character, it was fun to watch.

I liked the first, I just hope they can carry over the excitement and whatnot from the first. Hopefully, it'll be either as good as or better than the first.

I saw on aintitcool.com before it was pulled that they might have to break into the White House to get the book or pages. That is impossible.

I don't even care if it's that good... As long as Justin Bartha gets an assload of screentime, I'm happy.

I've seen the theatrical trailer about a million times now (working at a movie theater), and I'm still excited.
they might have to break into the White House
They actually have to kidnap the President to find the book's location. Should be interesting.

No batter way to prove your families innocence than kidnapping the president and demanding information.

I really liked the first film, though admittedly it had a lot to do with American history so i was clueless! However, I can't wait for the sequel, any idea when it will be released in England (unless of course it's the same date)?

The main character's family is supposedly somehow connected to John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln.
