I've got this film on DVD and it's one of those which I remember watching as a kid, well I was 7 When it came out, a really good film, and despite the fact it is now 12 years old, it still is based on a common issue today and for the time, it had some very well made special effects, and well cast actors, and I thought it was excellent anyone else seen it and agree, or have any other comments or oppions about it?
I like the way Such Things as Dirt and Paper become more valuble than Gold or money.
I used to watch it over and over again,i got it on dvd for £3 haha bargain my favourite bit is neat the end on the ship deacon(bad guy) "You know, I thought you were stupid, friend. But I underestimated you. You are a total freaking retard! Ha-ha-ha... "
I love the movie too, but I've never been able to find it on DVD, but that's unimportant since I can just Tivo it now that some channel (I think SciFi) is showing it all the time.
Sometimes Critics seem adament to slag a film off, USUALLY they are right, but there are the rare few which Have been popular among the people, but critics hate, very strange
Yeah probably never thought about that part it's logical really, the amount the climate would have changed, it is very likely that the top of Everest in that climate would turn tropical and habitable, so yeah most likely and logically....
Probably. Though realistically, I don't think that the melting of all the ice in the world would flood the earth to the degree we see in the movie. there are som many places on earth that are currently below sea level, not to mention places like the grand canyon, that would definitely hold back a lot of water.
My favorite thing about Waterworld, however, was how they managed to make Dennis Hopper look like a sunburnt Klingon, and act even campier than King Koopa.
lol yea I don't think the sea would rise that much either. Dennis Hopper is the best thing about the film lol
Deacon: Well? How's it look? [the other smokers say, "not bad," "not bad at all" Doctor: I-I like it better than your real eye. smoker: "much better" Deacon: What do you say, Toby? The truth. Toby: Looks like shit. Deacon: That's why I love children: no guile.
i know it was in the Cable Guy, i was just bringing up semi-random Waterworld related facts. You said flat out that it was from the Cable Guy, and i understand that. But the line "Dry land is not a myth, i've seen it!" is usually a phrase that people associate with Waterworld, but the line is never spoken in the movie. Sorry if that was mis-understood.
It was also pretty damn weird, at least to me. I mean, right off the bat you see this amazing waterscape and then Kevin Cosner pissing in a cup and drinking it.
I think because when it came out, the hype was so huge that people were expecting an oscar worthy movie, and when it came out and ended up being only a above average blockbuster, people were disapointed.
Plus, critics generally have no love for Kevin Costner. I can understand this. He can be good sometimes, but a lot of the time, he comes across as a bit of a goober.
This was on during the weekend, can't remember what channel it was on though but I saw it was on like 2-3x a day all weekend long before Max Max 3 followed by Last of the Mohicans then several others.
Didn't get a chance to watch but I did enjoy it so many years ago...
I love waterworld. Because its Costner. Reynolds + Costner also did Robin Hood together, and that movie is pretty win to me, not excluding but INCLUDING all of its really horrible terrible parts. Waterworld has a sick sense of humor, and i enjoy it, despite two of its biggest problems. -the Valdez sank and never came back, -the caps melting would never put that much water on Earth.
