How is there not a thread for this yet? (I did a search for "geometry wars," "geometry," and "wars," so if there is, I apologize, but it's named something ridiculous.)
Anyway. This is a $40 game for the Wii, which is apparently a remake (or a rehashing or something) or an old arcade game, and it definitely has that feel. It puts the steroids in Asteroids (lolololol).
There are several control schemes for it, but I've only used one, thus far: Wii remote + Nunchuk. With this scheme, you use the Nunchuk's control stick to move your ship (or whatever it's supposed to be), and point the Wiimote to aim. A or B fires, and Z or C use your bombs, which destroys everything on the screen (you have a limited amount of those, obviously).
Apparently the difference between this and the original is that now you have a "sidekick." You begin with the "attack" sidekick, which occasionally fires a shot to help you out. You can buy other sidekicks, and the more you use a sidekick, the more experience it gains, and the better it gets at its job. (The attack one would attack more frequently, or more powerfully, for example.)
This is definitely one of those addicting, mindless arcade games that can keep you busy for hours on end. Think of it as being fun in the same way Guitar Hero is fun, or the way Pac Man is fun. And for only $40, you can't beat it.
Plus, the commercial uses They Might Be Giants' Particle Man song. How awesome is that? (Watch that trailer for some gameplay footage, and some ridiculous people dancing around dressed as geometric figures.)
I'm already addicted, and I've only played 3 of 60+ levels. (And I've played each of those three three times each, to get better scores/medals.)
I've paid for, downloaded and played the Xbox LIVE Arcade version of 'Geometry Wars: Evolved' and, even through gaining all of the achievements, I still play it any time I find myself with nothing else to do. Even now, after downloading many other Arcade games, it still acts as my boredom cure. I'd seen the trailer for the Wii version a while ago, however I am a little annoyed that they'd make it a Wii exclusive. This means that anyone who wants a fresher version of an amazing Xbox Live Arcade game has to buy a Wii as well as the game to play it. It's frustrating, however I guess I'll just have to make do with the simple arcade version.
I might actually get this for a friend! Then I could play it at his house!
Geometry Wars is a minigame created by Bizarre Creations as part of Project Gotham Racing 2 for the Xbox, accessible through the in-game garage. An updated version of the game, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved, is available for download on the Xbox 360 via Xbox Live Arcade. It can also be played in demo form in Project Gotham Racing 3. It was for a time the most-downloaded game on Xbox Live Arcade. A new version, Geometry Wars: Evolved, has been produced for mobile phones, and a version has also been released for Windows Vista, as well as a reduced-price Windows XP release on the Steam content delivery network. Another rendition, with an added single-player campaign, has been released for the Nintendo DS and Wii, titled Geometry Wars: Galaxies, and another version named Geometry Wars: Waves is included with Project Gotham Racing 4.
I've been playing this game on my 360 because it came with a demo, and I am slightly disgusted that its $40 for the Wii. I mean, this game is all kinds of fun, but it's not deep enough to warrant more than $15 at most.
Well, it's not the same game. Assuming what you have isn't a demo, the game I'm talking about is a Wii-exclusive (er, Wii and DS, I believe). Technically it's "Geometry Wars: Galaxies."
60+ levels, sidekick, level-ups... I imagine it has something your free version does not.
wizardmon, as your friend, I understand you don't follow on the "Xboxes" and "Haloes" and "William Gate" and what not, but you must immediately apologize for your initial insulting "summary" of Geometry Wars.
Right. But Geometry Wars isn't in a form of levels unless you are suggesting that each new geometric foe is the next level. But really, then sixty would sound silly.
If you watch the trailer, it makes more sense. I believe the 'levels' are referring to the boundaries in which you play. In the original XBLA game, you only fight inside a large square, although in 'Geometry Wars: Galaxies' you may fight in all differently shaped boundaries, more than sixty of them, it seems.
sweet i dont have the game for the wii.. yet ive played it on XBL though. its a sweet simple game and i so want 2 try out the 60 lvs on the wii version :)
