Yeah, the sport's been going down since the end of '04. In the first chase how many guys were still mathematically in it going into Homestead? Six? And the last race at Richmond was epic, Jeremy Mayfield barely squeaked in with a win. In '07? Only two guys mathematically eligible at Homestead and at Richmond only Jr. had a shot at sneaking in and it was pretty slim. And the Busch series is a total crapfest now. The last two champions were decided by May for God sakes.
Yeah, I figure it's worse with the Busch, wait, it's not the Busch Series anymore is it? That's another thing, the money aspect of the business has gotten way out of hand. It's bad enough the rules and all have been "tweaked" beyond repair. I still like the sport but give me a break, it's becoming more of a soap opera rather than silly season.
With that said, I can only hope the new season brings a leveling off, of fixing things that aren't broke.
So the sport is on a downslide, like no other sport has ever experienced one. Last time I checked, the only sport with better rating in the US was the NFL. MLB is in hot water with roids (though I suspect some of that is just crap, and I don't really care anyway), the NFL is still the National Felon League (sorry to the many law-abiding players, but Mike Vick ruined it for everyone), the NHL and NBA have never been nearly as big as the others and if someone says MLS is up there I'll stab you in the eye. I'd say NASCAR is doing well all things considered.
I'm looking forward to a big '08 and a great season for Jr in his new ride. The new folks from open-wheel should spice things up, and the COT has the potential to open the door to a lot more teams.
Happy new year everybody. Just welcoming myself to the NASCAR 2008 Thread. Hoping for a wonderful season where Dale Jr can actually win a race this year!
Happy New Year, everyone! I just hope this season isn't a snoozer that boils down to 'which Hendrick driver will win it all', or 'oh my, the drama for 35 position in owner's points', or 'which Cup regular will win the Busch, er, Division 1AA, dammit, Nationwide series and by how much'.
And I want to see the 08 in victory lane (hopefully with Martin driving)!
id like to see him there as well, but i dunno how likely. now if he drove for hendrick he could still go part time and win the championship cause of how its rigged.
happy new year everyone. let us hope that this season goes well. i just hope the CoT does not kill the race at daytona (anyone remember 2000?) i know this is a long shot but deep down i am praying that the chase gets thrown out and brian france gets ejected out of the sport.
1. Know and adhere to the Roosterteeth Forum Rules and the Sports Forum Rules. Blatant violations of those rules and those listed here will be reported to the moderators and they will deal with you accordingly.
2. This is a thread for NASCAR discussion, and it should be treated as such. Try to keep discussions on-topic. However, it should be noted that seemingly off-topic discussions (other racing series, the auto industry, etc.) are not always truly off-topic, since they can relate to what is going on in NASCAR. This is usually the case with many discussions during the off-season. If you think the discussion is off-topic, either hang around for the topic to shift or initiate a new discussion. Don't self-rightously blast others for supposedly going off-topic or not engaging in 'real' NASCAR discussion. You'll just make yourself look like an ass.
3. Respect each-other. Flaming and Trolling are against the site rules and will not be tolerated. Do not disparagingly criticize another board member for their shortcomings. Needless neg-modding is also frowned upon. Don't be a douche and neg someone just because you disagree with them or don't like their driver, team, car make, or what-have-you unless it is obviously flamebait or blatantly stupid or offensive. Positive modding of good points, cool pix, and genuinely humorous stuff is encouraged. Share the love, baby.
4. NASCAR bashing will not be tolerated. Don't come in here and say "NASCAR sucks, you redneck hillbillies!" If you want to have a civil, objective discussion of things you don't like about NASCAR, that's allowable. But there's a difference between discussing problems with NASCAR and bashing NASCAR. You know it, and we know it.

Respect is to be shown to everyone, but especially so to the regulars. It is basic netiquette to show respect to those who have regularly contributed to discussions and kept the thread going. This list can grow as we gain new regular contributors throughout the season, so you may see folks posting here regularly who are not on this list. If you follow the rules and are a constructive member, we hope to see you added to the list next season!
