With Codemasters releasing a new Race Driver game I hunted for a thread but failed to find one.
I am really looking forward to the release of the game due to the career mode of getting hired and building yourself up to own a team and hire teammates. With regions to master, Europe for Touring Cars, America for Muscle Cars and Japan for Drifting, it leaves plenty of driving styles to master. All the drivers on track are aware of most that is happening on track and will attempt to block you or avoid an accident. All drivers are capable of making mistakes giving you a postion or even ruining your race by collecting you in a spin.
Is anyone else looking forward to the game or played the demo?
Not exactly looking forward to it, I may get it if its ~$40....but the physics are crap, if the demo and the previous iterations of the game are anything to go by....Hell even if it crap I'll probably still get it....its so pretty and stuff.
I havent played it but i understood it as the engine for tyres coming off tyre walls and body parts moving. Driving is unique (still looks poor) but offers that something different. Just the thought of moving to the inside to make a move and somebody covers you is immense!
Well that does sound cool, I really hope this game is better than I expect of it, but just because it has so many series and online I'll get it just for the laugh.
i downloaded the demo, it is a pretty fun game. especially fun if you can work the hand brake well.
its pretty fun for racing too. going 2-3 wide is crazy because you know if someone crashes, you could easily be taken out with them (have had over half the race drivers wreck out in the first corner cause some idiot hit the wall and we all hit him)
My xbox is dead si i cant play the demo and the woman on the other end of the line was definately not english! She messed it up also so I can't get a label.
I tried the demo out today and pretty much hated it.
As SorvatS said, the physics are crap, the cars feel as if they are floating over the ground rather than riding on it and it seems as though the three cars in the demo are just different skins laid over the same model. I felt no difference between the WTCC BMW, the drift car or the muscle car what-so-ever.
There is also very limited feedback given through the pad to let you feel what is going on. In Forza 2 for example you know when your car is approaching the limit of traction as the pad will rumble accordingly, in GRID the first time you've reached the limit is when the car swaps ends on you.
The game certainly seems to be tailored more to the arcade racer than the simulation racer and I think that is where my issue lies. Games like GT and Forza have spolit me with more complete driving physics so going to a game without them is infinitely less rewarding to me.
Fair points, although at least they haven't put out a demo with loads of stuff that isn't in the game. Alot of demos are there to sell and are not near the finished product. This sounds like a demo released so people can get a slight feel for the game. I'll get it anyways just because i want to make my own team. I've been wanting that in a game for ages!
Having got the game, while the driving is a mix or arcade and simulation it works alot better than the NFS rubbish that comes out and the multiplayer Destruction Derby is incredible fun. Just watching someone fly into a tyre wall and instead of laughing having to swerve as a tyre flys across towards you. Also if they get stuck under a wheel your steerings gone unless it slids out again. I'd give the game 91% as teh graphics are awesome.
I played this game and enjoyed it a bit. Its different from PGR3/4 though just to the driving and way it works, if your looking for a more realistic approach id say PGR, while GRID is awesome and fun, frustrating if you cant get a hang of the breaking and timing. It was a disappointment to me too that when you hire a Teammate, you can only have 1, and there basically only decent at there 1 event from what i saw when i played, I agree with Gerald on the ranking of 91%, probably 4 stars too.
I hired a strong drievr early on. He normally wins if i dont. Its just their specialty its shows. They all have an event and a GT2/1 or LMP group they are strongest in and then they are fine with others normally. I had an open whell drievr who wrecked his car everytime yet my drift gp driver wins most races except drift gp! Cars effect your teammate alot.
