I have seen that it is safe to say that 90% of star-trek games are shit. now resently this has been geting lower but still. If it isnt bad its over hiped to the point where people think it will be a pice of star trek heven and insted get the USS 50dollarsworhtofshitinacase.
My worst case of ST shit would be Star-trek away teem. Could have been good. But the missons where all the same thing and THAY DONT FIRE BACK WHEN SHOT AT WITHOUT BEING TOLD TO! the lemmings... any way.
So what is the problem with star trek games? are thay that hard to make? are we expecting to much? allso tell what your worst case of ST related shit is.
I think so to in most cases. Lets take an old clasic. Star-Trek Starfleet command 2. Everyone loved it. It did a good job. Good controlls. Lots of tactics. Each ship had a weekness. All good.
An other one is star trek birth of the fedration. The only problem being that it had bugs comeing out the ears before the patch.
I do to think that rushing adds to the problems in ST games.
The best star trek game of all time was Star Trek 25th Anniversary for Pc way back when games were still on floppy disks. It had space combat, logic, interesting dialogue and good story lines for each mission that was put together like an epsiode of the original series.
Since then the games that were similar (i.e. Star Trek tactical assault) was flying around mindlessly trying to figure out how to blow up klingons (or borg, or breen or whatever). Star Trek Voyager Elite Force 1 and 2 were worth buying because it was a good story, great action, and you got to walk around voyager and piss off Seven of Nine.
I want Star Trek Judgement Rights, but i can't find a download of it since you can't buy it anymore.
I had problems with legasy. The ship ark was limited (witch is dumb) crash effects where not their at all. (you should not be able to bump off a borg cube or planet) Big ships and big space platforms objects ect. died by blowing up into 3 to 6 chunks and then a identical object would apper in the middle of it all and do it agian. Repeat 3 or 4 times or untill you have SHITlLODES of disproportionate chunks flying around.
Star Trek Legacy for the 360 is the only ST game I've played within the past 5 years or so, and honestly, I'm not particularly enjoying it. The way the Campaign mode is set up, you go through each series in chronological order. they really don't have much to do with the actual storylines of the respective series, but that wouldn't make much of a difference if it were possible to get through the games. I'm currently stuck on a mission in the Enterprise (Captain Archer) era. I wouldn't have an issue usually, but i've tried many times to get past it and i can't. Honestly, I wouldn't even still be trying if it weren't for the fact that i do want to get at least to the Star Trek: TOS era.
For those who haven't played it, basically you are in direct control of a squad of up to four ships. You can upgrade and sell each ship (aside from the fleet commander, usually the Enterprise of the era) and on the whole, that's pretty cool. Actually controlling your fleet isn't easy, though. Its almost as if an RTS was crammed into the shell of a third-person spacefighter. On top of that, the in-game controls are quite difficult to use with the X360 controller. Again, something that would've been better suited to a keyboard.
And graphically, Legacy is probably the poorest representation of the capabilities of the 360 I have seen to date. Certainly not current-gen quality.
I could keep going, but honestly, what's the point? From what I read, the same trend follows many other Star Trek games. I wouldn't consider myself a fanatic, but how much would it be to ask for one decent Star Trek game? Hell, we would get much better than what we have if the developers would think a little before throwing something together.
I think I've ever only played one startrek game and I can't remember what it was called it was many years ago. Had borgs in it which scared the shit out of me back then. I don't remember thinking it was bad though
Either that or Star Trek: Borg. It was more of a first-person cinematic game. You were placed in the role of a Starfleet ensign and had to make certain choices at points. if you made the wrong choice, Q would just rewind and have you do it until you got it right. And there were lots of Borg.
Fun game, but there wasn't any shooting involved and lots of running, so I'd imagine that fits the bill. Plus, it's a much older game than Elite Force, so that's what leads me to thikn that's what he's talking about.
Cool. But I just rememberd why I started this thread. To find and think up ways to fix the problems with star trek games. So... where there any problems with that game?
I Think ST games are going in the best direction possible with ST online. It takes all the elements you could want from a trek game, Away missions, ship to ship combat, exploration, being a diplomatic envoy and places them in an easy to understand and play atmosphere where literally anyone and everyone can pick up and get into the action.
I for one will be spending plenty of hours galloping across the galaxy when that game comes out.
I think most are rubbish. Hidden Evil for example. And wtf was the point of starship creator.
But to be fair they did some good ones. I loved Elite Force, although the second wasnt as good. I remember playing Star Fleet Academy for hours and A Final Unity too but that one was also insanely hard. I really liked DS9 The Fallen, that was a great game. Wish there were more trek shooters i'm not keen on the space battle ones.
Star fleet command 2 was real good, tactical, space combat. Starfleet Command 3 had the same game with fewer parts and updated ships. AKA. not as good. Elite force was good, and The Fallen is one of the best ST games I have ever played. Perhaps the best. I am allso looking forward to startrek online. It will be awsome...if thay ever say when it is going to come out...
So, Dose anyone have an oppinon on Startrek Online? wether it looks good or bad and what about it? Dose it look like its falling into some familure traps?
I've played a gd few ST games and tbh, I've been disappointed with most of them in the end, although playing most of them was also brilliant in one way or another.
Star Trek Armada for me was definitely gd, older graphics didn't bother me then and still don't bother me now, can't really say anything bad about it just now.
Star Trek Starfleet Academy, I played this once or twice when I got it from my mate, loved it, even read the book that came with that one but in the end never finished either.
Star Trek, birth of the federation, still got that one just now (hard to get it to work with vista mind you without crashing), not fun against romulans mind you, the game doesn't seem to care about the dilithium shortage you get and credit problems and just gives the romulans and klingons bollocks load of ships :(
Star Trek Starfleet Command was also one of my favourites, got it here too but can't get the damned thing to work :( Played Starfleet Command 3 as well, obviously much improved and better overall but again, rarely played it.
Star Trek Elite Force was a great game, can't remember if I finished it or not but definitely played it for hours on end.
Star Trek Bridge Commander....moving on.
Star Trek Legacy, this one actually annoyed me the most for gameplay, the controls are fiddly tbh, even with a mouse and keyboard. Having to play through the timeline is somewhat annoying and I think the last Archer era mission is the hardest so far (or just piss annoying, undecided yet). Trying to control more than 2 ships at a time is silly as once you leave a ship on it's own, it won't always do what it was told :/
Anything not mentioned there I've not played :p
As for ST Online, the concept sounds great, sounds as if it'll be a brilliant game but alas, like most promises about ST games, I feel it may just once again be overhyped :(
