1) It's wireless ( no punching holes in my walls ) 2) It has no maintenance fees ( forget that monthly bill! ) 3) It costs less than $200 ( which means just the insurance deduction will pay for this thing in 1 year )
I was curious if anyone else has any experience installing alarm systems for themselves, or better yet, anyone that has experience with this particular unit, model, or brand of alarm.
Also, since this unit is not hooked up to a central monitoring service, and isntead has a pre-recorded dialer, I also wanted to know if anyone has any experience with a similar system. Do all 911 operating centers accept pre-recorded distress calls, etc...?
Thank You in advance for your great, productive and informative posts.

From the Manufacturer This kit comes with a complete wireless security system that can be installed in minutes. Includes: motion sensor and two door/window sensors, emergency dialer and security control panel. The SC-1000 is suitable for Homes, Business Offices, 24-hour stores, Retail Operations or wherever security is a concern. The emergency dialer (AD433S) is your own monitoring center without any monitoring fees. If any sensors are triggered when the system is armed, the siren will sound and it will send a wireless signal to the dialer that will call for help at the same time. You can program the emergency dialer to call up to 9 different phone numbers including your own cellular phone, pager, your doctor, relatives, friends, neighbors, etc. Once the recipient picks up the phone, the emergency dialer will play your pre-recorded message and inform the recipient that you are in an emergency situation and to send help right away

I would be leery of an autodialer going to 911 instead of a monitoring service. Besides the matter of whether or not your locality allows it, you could potentially be held liable for false calls should there be any system errors, false alarms, etc. As far as the rest of it goes it sounds pretty sweet.
You are 100% correct about false calls. I have already read that regarding some other municipalities.
However, there are different things you can do to make sure this doesn't happen.
First, don't setup the 911 number first. Setup the dialer to a cell phone, etc. Then test the system to make sure everything is working correctly.
Also, I've read that activation of different zones can react differently. For instance, if a door is opened, it can automatically dial, but if just the motion activation went off, it could just sound the alarm.
I worked with security systems for a long time. You want one that has a monitoring center. This reduces false alarms and keeps you from getting fined by the local town or city. If you have multiple documented false alarms you can be removed from the police dispatch list. in other words they will not respond to your alarm any more and your security system will not be worth anything.
