Tournament-Making Tips [ 1 ]

Here's some tips on making tournaments:

1. There is option for LINKED ACCOUNTS in the Tournament Info. If you specify Users, it will look for a profile on the site and link it. Groups does groups. Both does both, with a preference to Users. None, would be for poll tournaments. If you update LINKED ACCOUNTS in Tournament Info, you should also hit Edit Bracket and hit UPDATE to make the changes apply to the bracket.

2. Use the Private feature.

3. Try to set the registrations in advance of the tournament, but not too far. One week was too much for Staff tournament. Ideally, you could announce the tournament a week out and do registrations the day of the matches. You would know who's actually going to play.

4. You can cut and paste the rules from any Staff Tournament into your rules thread.

5. You have the ability to Mass Message users in an individual tournament, but not teams. We are working on a Captain designation, but I would leave a personal comment for Group admins as a reminder the day of the tournament.

6. The module will also use the standard Achievement Hunter tile for the game if you do not specify one. And if there is no AH tile for it, you will need to submit your own tournament image.

If you see a tournament you'd like to be a part of in the Tournaments section of the site (Under games), click on it and check the forum for a registration thread, or an announcement of when the registration will be open. If/ when the the thread is open for registration, Sign up the way the admin asks you to in the thread, and wait for a message and check the tournament frequently for a new thread or to see if the bracket has filled up so you can find your opponent. Pretty simple.

You probably need the help of a Forum Mod for that kind of thing, I'd think. Am I right?

Yeah, probably. No matter though. I'm sure the members of RT will be mature not to post where I say not to. So far they have, at least.

The inability to follow directions is actually something you want to discover as early as possible. Trust me.

In other words, you don't want someone wasting a bunch of time the night of the tournament because they clearly have not read rules. Better to find that out before you put them in the bracket.

Hey Burnie, just wondering: anything in the pipe about different types of tournament, like round robins or handicap ranks?

That would be in the refinement phase of tournaments, which will be one of the last things we refine at this point. The only thing we have listed is "slayer tournaments", where 3 of 6 people move on.

A have a tip.

When half of your bracket gets filled up, look how much time you have until your tournament. If you don't think that enough people will fill up the bracket before it starts, then just edit the participant number to how many people you have in the tourney at the time.
That way your not playing with a [example]32 person bracket with only 19 people.[/example]
