USA's new series premiered last night. Anyone else check this out? The premise is kind of ludicrous, and I'm not sure how well it can hold up over the course of a series, but it's interesting. Sort of House meets MacGyver. And so far the characters are pretty cool. Thoughts?
I loved it, personally. It was pretty good up until they got to the party, which is where it started getting really entertaining. I think it'll be kinda repetitive in plot, but while one may say formulaic, I say reliable. Still, I found it really entertaining.
Watched it and loved it. The humor was too good, and unlike some of the other medical shows that are proliferating, this one looks like it has a chance. A challenge I think the show has is that the episodes need to be like the pilot: alot of cases/things happening during the episode. As Hank or whatever is building his team, I just hope that the show doesn't become like House where he deals with one patient per episode.
That's the point but many times pilot episodes are made on the cheap to see if it is a viable concept so it doesn't totally mesh with the rest of the show. Or they are changed for whatever reason (Dollhouse) so generally I give new shows 3 or 4 eps to really hook me and this one did it in 1 episode. So hopefully it will keep it up.
I've got to say that I've been on the fence about whether or not to travel down the become a surgeon and bring honor to the family path for a few years now, but this show (along with Sherlock Holmes' Dr. Watson of all characters) has definitely shoved me in that ludicrous direction. Whether or not I intend to get paid in gold bars is another question, sure. But fingers crossed.
I'm replying to warmsox because I'm curious about the changes from the pilot to the second episode in Dollhouse (we can continue on whether or not Royal Pains suffered the same fate to keep it on topic). I've completely forgotten what drastic plot switch-ups occurred on this show. Would you mind reminding me?
I don't think that it has to be part of a huge overall story to be a good episode. Not every show needs to be Lost or 24. The second episode of Dollhouse was probably my favorite, very The Most Dangerous Game. Royal Pains strikes me as more of a House show, episodic medical comedy/drama. Probably no particular overall storyline, just a few character threads that continue.
That's one of the things I really love about USA: their ads. That one, and the new one for Psych were they're trying out theme songs are absolutely ace.
Thanks for the link to the pilot! I just watched it and I'm about to watch the second episode. It's got me hooked for now. I love Psych, and now this is looking to be really fun, so USA is pretty high in my book right now.
I think that's what I like about USA shows though. They generally aren't groundbreaking but they are always entertaining and solidly made, written and acted. You can't really complain about them.

The 4400 and The Dead Zone (minus the last season) were quite excellent in all regards. Burn Notice is even skirting the line between popcorn TV and quality. I want USA to be good so much.
In reply to Chiron723, #22: Showtime is not a cable channel; it's a premium channel.
USA is how TV should be. Any of you know of the show John Doe from several years back? Yes it was a Fox show and USA is NBC, but I think it would rock out on USA, as would have Firefly and several other shows. USA is home to the quirky shows and I can't think of a USA show in recent history that has been cancelled.
Also, USA being owned by NBC may have something to do with its awesomeness.
I'm enjoying this show quite a bit. The plot really doesn't start picking up until the second episode. The characters still need more development, but it looks like they're doing it slowly during the course of the season.
All in all, I'd say this is definitely a show worth watching.
I saw the pilot a couple of days ago at a friends house. I thought it was pretty good, and very humerous. I was going to watch the second episode on hulu, but i got derailed by Bill and Ted's excellent adventureXD
