I recently got bothered for using coloured text in one of my form posts. So what does everyone else think. Is perfectly ok to use coloured text in every post if you feel like it?
The color text feature was introduced to allow emphasis to be added where it is needed.
Even the RT staff said when it was first introduced that they did not want to see anyone using the color feature in every post they make, coloring the entire post. In fact, they said that if color abuse was too widespread, they would take the feature back. I have to agree with them, it's just dumb and annoying.
I also noticed in the thread that you said that links stand out better against the blue text. Not so much on the RvB subdomain theme, which is probably the most widely used.
That actually makes sense. I was not on RT when they introduced the feature, and before your post no one had given me anyother reason than "colouring is just stupid." I still think links stand out against colored text better though.
I personally find colored text to be highly annoying... then again, I'm color blind, and people often pick colors that I can't frickin see, or that blend in with the other colors that I can't frickin see. What really sucks is when they pick a color that looks exactly the same as the link, so I have to play mouse wars just to figure out where the link is. Color is great for specific moments of emphasis, but for an entire post to be colored? ANNOYING.
Ehh, I don't mind the colored post. Brightens up my dull existence, I guess. I don't do it too often, but it doesn't bother me unless it's the bright ass colors.
