I love all of the star wars movies, I've watched them each at least a dozen times. but the other day as I watched Star Wars: Episode III I felt like it was the worst one, and for a couple of bige reasons. First off, as I watched the development of important plot characters I was saddened; no jedi in this movie had time to show their real powers and fell victim to a quick saber battle that ended with their death. When you first saw General Grievous on his cruiser you knew he was a badass. He had four arms and a saber for each, and you just wanted to see him in combat. Fast forward to Utapao when Obi Wan has found grievous; yes I understand Obi Wan had the force on his side and incredible skill, but grievous didn't even really give us a display he just got his hand lobbed off, ran way, and got shot in the heart. I was dissapointed, and thats not where it stops. Mace Windu take THREE JEDI KNIGHTS to arrest Sidious. Before you read further you should watch this scene again and take in the bullshit that it is. They walk in and instead of standing ready to fight, two of them just stand their until Sidious stabs them with no effort. Then the third does a little dance before he gets stabbed leaving Windu alone. Four jedi knights against Sidious shouldn't go like that. It felt like they just tried to shove what could have been two movies into a couple of hours, and as a result what could have been epic battles became a 30 second fight.
So it is clear that the new trilogy, as great as it is has its flaws, but I'm not sure wich Star wars movie I dislike the most. What is everyone elses least favorites and why?
I didn't like episode 2 too much compared to the others either, Besides the Geonosis arena fight and a few other parts, it wasn't great compared to star wars standards.
As for a new hope, It was a great movie, but definitly not Lucas' best work. My personal favorite is probably Return of the Jedi.
I need to rethink what i said about episode II. I find that movie the most boring by far, but i think it has an amazing last 30-45 minutes. The rest of the movie = crap
Ugh i cant even believe they made that into a movie.
As for worst Star Wars Movie i didnt really like episode 1 to much. Jar Jar Binks is a terribly annoying character and ruined most of the movie for me.
I liked episode 2 a bit more than episode 1 but i thought it was kinda lame how Jango Fett was killed. He fires three shots a Mace Windu and then gets his head cut off. Most badass Bounty Hunter in the galaxy gets killed like he was nothing.
No, my eyes are burninig! I have to gouge my eyes out now!
yea, but seriuosly, I don't even consider that a piece of star wars, I don't even think its canon. Just be happy in knowing Ahsoka (or whatever that bastrds name is) as some point is killed by clone troopers. Order 66 FTW
Episode Two is the worst, in my opinion. The acting was terrible, he script was cliche, and the action scenes were pretty boring. That, and Obi-Wan had a Jedi mullet.
The Clone Wars movie was particularly awful, too. Gotta love that CIS General in the beginning battle. "Cannons? This will never do!"
'Worst' isn't the right term, but Return of the Jedi just loses out.
I mean, the Ewoks are a pretty harsh point against it, but just look at what it is up against. A New Hope is the origin of the lot, and the cheesiness is endearing when it is so deliberate and the actors obviously know it. Plus great concepts. Empire Strikes Back was gloriously dark plus the best directing and writing that Lucas managed (bet more people quote Empire than the other films put together, even if they flub the lines). Jedi has great explosions and probably the best space battle, but action scenes alone don't make a film, and if you go by the good bits you get down to about half the total run time. Not a good sign, especially when you know Lucas wanted an extra story between Empire and Jedi.
I don't know why so many people are talking about the Lucas Happy Fun Time CGI Hour Movies in a Star Wars thread...
Lucas didn't write or direct Empire, he just had story supervision. Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan wrote the script, and Irvin Kershner directed. That's why there's actual emotion, instead of "faster".
I chalk that up to shock. It's always a jolt to realize that George Lucas is not directly responsible for the best piece of media in a franchise that he created.
I enjoyed all Star Wars movies to have come out. Yes, even Clone Wars. And Yes, I'm a big Star Wars fan.
Sure, all movies have flaws. IMO, Ep I is the worst. It has the worst use of characters and has the most annoying ones in the entire saga too, even the actors (Jake Lloyd as Anakin was fucking horrible casting), and it had least interesting story. My favorite of the prequels is Ep III, which I thought was pretty good and improved on all the bad aspects of the other 2. Nevertheless, there are parts that I thought were great in Eps I & II. Ep I had the pod-race and the Darth Maul vs. Obi-wan and Qui-Gon duel. Ep II had some great action pieces like the Speeder chase on Coruscant, the Arena battle, Obi-wan's fight with Jango Fett and their Asteroid Field chase, and the Battle of Geonosis. Like I said, I enjoyed all of 'em. But the worst one's TPM to me.
The first one was absolutely terrible. The second and third movies might have held up better if they followed a movie that actually deserved two sequels. Jar-jar was a deal-breaker, but mostly it was a lot of missed opportunities. Episode I practically invented the term "hype", and yet it was utterly mediocre.
I watched a couple of episodes of the cartoon, and the only ones I enjoyed were the ones where either A) Ahsoka wasn't there, or B) it focused on the clone troopers. I refuse to watch the movie.
Hmm, that's true, I'm a huge EU fan myself, and there's plenty of good reading to be had there, the Republic Commando books in particular. I should have said "movie" as opposed to "media". My bad.
