I need YOU to Name my New Blog

Hello everyone.

No one is better than this RoosterTeeth community than being creative!

I recently wrote a post on my blog www.EllisBenus.com detailing how I was Repurposing to an Idea Blog and Launching a Political Blog

The political blog will chronicle my journey from a completely politically ignorant person to a well-informed and involved citizen. However, I need a name for it!!!

Please tell me what I should name my new political blog.

It should be short, informative and catchy while also being purchasable in a .com domain name.

I look forward to reading your ideas!

2 Days in a Row. Heck yes!

I made it back.

The mire, clay, thorns and bandwidth did not stop me.

I have returned 2 days in a row.

Let's keep this streak going.

A year?! Are you kidding me?!

Wow, for the longest time I lived and breathed this site, and now I see my last journal was March 20th, of 2008. A freaking year ago!

Wow...

Something needs to change.

I also have not watched any RvB episodes for longer than that.

I think it all started with my inability to greet people anymore, but that really shouldn't be a big deal.

Whatever the case, I miss a lot of the people on this site I used to converse with reguarly.

I can still remember when I first got involved with this website, I would hit refresh over and over (even downloaded the RefreshEvery firefox extension) to see the wonderful 1 New Alert link.

Now I have not logged in for a year...

Man, I even remember dissing on all of the 50+'s who never logged in anymore...

Why has this happened?

Anyway, I never check Facebook, MySpace, or any of the others anymore either.

I guess it's just me.

Well, flame the heck out of me, and I promise to check back soon. Like tomorrow, not 12 months from now.

Death to Cell Phone!

My entire life I've always hated cell phones. But like everyone else, I've got one.

Now my wife and I both have cell phones costing us $100 a month with AT&T.

I'm sick of it!
I'm tired of paying for something I hate, when I've lied myself into thinking I need it!

So, what's the alternative?
Let's see...
10 years ago if you weren't home, people left you a message.
10 years people did not think they needed to reach you wherever you were.
I intend to go back to 10 years ago using Skype.

A friend of mine has the best setup.
He has a simple Trac phone (or some pay-as-you-go phone) which he never uses the minutes on because he only uses it for people to leave him voice mails and the "in case of emergencies" setup. Then he calls people back on Skype for free. I just checked their rates and you can call as many people as you want for $3 per month.

Also, Skype is coming out with their own mobile phone but it's not in the US yet.

The main reason I'm writing about this is because I was curious if anyone around here was using Skype or any other VOIP. If so, please tell me your experiences.

Thank You!

If I do switch, be expecting journals about the change over!

Social Networking

I just recently started actually trying to work with Social Networking websites.

You can find me under Ellis Benus on LinkedIn, Myspace and FaceBook.

They are the only places I'm at currently, and probably will remain (other than here!)

Just a short one for today, except to say...

I played the Devil at church today in an illustrated song.
Hopefully I will have pictures and video soon!

The Prysms is dead... Long Live... Uh...

The Prysms Weekly was a short lived paper publication in my native Columbia, Missouri.

Unfortunately, this local print publication had a great community following and fantastic local contributors, and when it ceased to exist, for reasons I will not discuss, they no longer had an outlet for their writing.

I am hoping to relaunch this print publication as a purely online resource with all the original contributors who wrote for The Prysms Weekly, as well as several new writers. Luckily I know several graduates from Columbia's University of Missouri School of Journalism. Already I've been in contact with several of the original writers. They are just as excited as I am about the future of this resource.

Personally, politics and local affairs have never been a strong suite of mine. As I've been getting older and more involved in the community, like owning vehicles, owing a home, and paying more taxes, I've been paying a lot more attention to what goes on in this town I've lived in for 23 of my 23 years

One of the many reasons The Prysms probably failed is that the owner attempted to make it a print publication. As I said before, when I relaunch the magazine/paper it will be as only an online service. I am hoping to eventually sell advertising to local Columbia businesses and use the proceeds to pay the content contributors, but that will not be something I pursue immediately.

I'm very excited about getting this off the ground, and it's been awesome finding the people who did write for the Prysms and to hear their fervor as well.

It's doubtful much of the locally focused articles will appeal to the audience reading this journal, but hopefully there will also be some interesting artwork as well as nationally focused works and articles that don't really have a geographic focus.

I just wanted to share that with you all as I'm really excited about it and cannot share it publicly yet since I have not talked with the new contributors to come up with a name. The lack of a name for the new site is the "Uh..." part of the post title. Hopefully the veterans and the new folks will be able to come up with a great new name. Suggestions here are welcome.

Whenever we do launch, I will expect each of you reading to pay a visit!

Peace Out!

Non-Conformity IS Conforming!

James Thurber - “Why do you have to be a nonconformist like everybody else?”

You are conforming to being a non-conformist...
Anarchist are organized...
Rebels band together...
Crazies are all sent to the same place...

Regardless, everyone falls into a group and it's impossible to escape.

The reason I'm commenting on this, is because I watched American Idol Tuesday night with my wife.

What does the big AI have to do with my rant on Non-Conformity?

Almost all of the males who sang Tuesday night appeared (to me) to be attempting to dress, and act,
according to a handful of groups. The two who irritated me the most were the Emo and Rocker groupies.

I was irritated because these people are trying to be something special and something different,
but instead of doing so, they only managed to look like every other stereotypical Rock and Emo fan.

They are trying to define themselves as different, and only managed to pigeonhole themselves.

Am I overly passionate about something that doesn't affect me? Yeah...

Whatever my reasoning, or lack there of, it's irritating to see these little punks who think to say
"this is who I am" while who they are is exactly like everyone else in there "group."

Why does this irritate me?

Because they are false prophets. They are claiming to be different, and wanting to stand out.
However, instead they are just blending in more.

Has everything already been done? Is there no one who is truly different?

I don't know, but I hope there is something left to be done, and I hope there are different people out there.

But... I can guarantee being Emo or a Rocker has already been done, and it doesn't make you different!
