Veteran's Day
It is Veteran's Day here in the US. I strongly urge everyone to go out and say thanks to anyone you know who is currently serving or has served. It is thanks to them and everyone who has served in the past that we have the liberties we enjoy on a day to day basis.

I really should update this more often
So, I gave up on Ubuntu for my fileserver and went with the simpler option of FreeNAS. WebGUI for the win, and when you think about it Ubuntu and most other flavors of Linux are overpowered for what I wanted to do. Pure file servers need little in the way of processing power or RAM as I have observed in the resource utilization on my box.
In other news I have had Ubuntu 9.04 and Windows 7 RC running in dual boot configurations on both my laptop and desktop and have found much to enjoy with both. For anyone looking for a Linux distro that is easy to pick up and use for a typical non-gaming PC I would highly recommend Ubuntu. And Windows 7 looks to be well on track for beating back the negative press MS received for Vista, much of which was undeserved or overinflated in my opinion.

Building a Fileserver
So I am putting together a Fileserver with some old hardware and Ubuntu Linux 8.10. Trying to figure out a few things like why I can't remote in to a GUI when I disconnect the keyboard and monitor.
In other news, Ubuntu finally recognizes my wireless card in my laptop with the 9.04 Beta.

Why math is taught in school.
I was riding to work yesterday when I observed a female driver cut right in front of a pickup truck, causing him to have to drive onto the shoulder to avoid hitting her. This evidently angered the driver enough that he hung his arm out his window and "flipped" the woman off.
"Man, that guy is stupid," I thought to myself. I ALWAYS smile nicely and wave in a sheepish manner whenever a female does anything to me in traffic, and here's why:
I drive 48 miles each way every day to work. That's 96 miles each day. Of these, 16 miles each way is bumper-to-bumper. Most of the bumper-to-bumper is on an 8 lane highway. There's 7 cars every 40 feet for 32 miles. That works out to be 982 cars every mile, or 31,424 cars. Even though the rest of the 32 miles is not bumper to bumper, figure I pass at least another 4000 cars. That brings the number to something like 36,000 cars that I pass every day.
Statistically, half of these are driven by females. That's 18,000 women drivers!
In any given group of females, 1 in 28 has PMS. That's 642.
According to Cosmopolitan, 70% describe their love life as dissatisfying or unrewarding. That's 449.
According to the National Institute of Health, 22% of all females have seriously considered suicide or homicide. That's 98. 34% describe men as their biggest problem. That's 33.
According to the National Rifle Association, 5% of all females carry weapons, and this number is increasing.
That means that EVERY SINGLE DAY, I drive past at least one female that has a lousy love life, thinks men are her biggest problem, has seriously considered suicide or homicide, has PMS, and is armed.
Flip one off? ... I think not.

Yet another sad day this year
George Carlin died yesterday of heart failure. I will miss his witty, irreverent humor.

High gas prices
I am not a public speaker but I want people to know about a movement that could help us in the near future here in America. Its called "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" if you click on the banner on my profile it will take you to the page where you can sign the petition and find out more. The basic idea is to open our domestic resources to exploration and extraction. This can be done at a reduced cost per barrel of oil thus causing a drop in gas prices across the nation. We, as a nation, can do this and reduce our cost for energy while we continue to research and refine alternative methods of powering our vehicles. The price of everything you and I consume is directly tied to the price of oil at this time and the reduction in the price of oil will allow for reduction in prices everywhere as it costs less to manufacture and transport the things we require from necessities such as food to luxuries like the latest flat panel TV. I urge you to follow the link and consider for yourself the worthiness of this movement.

Bread and quality
If sliced bread was the best thing does that mean unsliced bread was the worst?
