"Pop" Goes The Foot...
So... as I'm sure most of you have heard by now, I injured my foot while at RvB: TO this year. Said injury has kept me away from work for the past week, but I should be good to go again starting tonight as long as I don't do anything stupid. To make a (somewhat) long story (somewhat) short, this occurred while playing in the CTF game on Sunday. I was a member of blue team, and Karli was on pink team. One of her teammates stole our flag and passed it to her. I took off running after her to try and get the flag back, and as I turned on a small rise in the field to cut her off, I lost my footing. It happened so fast that I'm not sure if my foot simply slipped out or caught on something in the grass, but what I do know is that on the way down, my foot flexed rather unnaturally downward and toward the center line of my body. There was a pop, and when I went to pick myself back up, I could not support weight on that foot without very intense pain. Fortunately, Karli and I were able to get a lift to the Mount Sinai hospital ER nearby from our friend Angela and her boyfriend, where I had the foot checked. X-Rays came back negative, and the ER doc concluded that I'd severely strained or perhaps torn the muscle on the top of my foot. I spent the rest of the trip and a couple days afterward on crutches. I had a follow-up appointment with my primary doctor Monday, who cleared me for work and informed me that it would probably be about a month or so before the foot fully healed. It's still sore, but I can walk around well enough on it as long as I keep it wrapped. Here's hoping it will stand up to the rigors of my scheduled shifts tonight and tomorrow night. At least if it's difficult, I'll only have to put up with those two 12-hour shifts before getting another 6 consecutive nights off (Unit self-scheduling FTW!). Speaking of those nights off, Karli and I plan on being in Vancouver, BC this weekend to see the conclusion of the city's annual Celebration of Light. We plan on arriving late Friday night and leaving Sunday or Monday. If any of you locals have some free time and are interested in meeting up while we're there, drop one of us a line and we'll try to figure something out. Also, scruffiness: (And general fatigue) This is what happens when I get more-or-less cooped up at home for several days. That's about a week's worth of growth. I probably should shave that off today before I go to work, as it still doesn't look like it's grown thick enough to do much with. As a final note I've spent some time over the last few nights writing a paper for the 400-level Ethics class I took last semester. I took an incomplete in the course so that I'd have enough time available to pass my other classes and get prepared to move at the end of last semester, so now I need to get the last of those assignments done before the next term starts (and I get overloaded again). One of the two remaining papers was finished and submitted this morning. Yay. Time to crash out again... - Nathan |
