goddamn. I picked up the burst fire shot of that gun at the trade center for 55 bucks with an extra clip. bolth clips are broken now but that's besides the point.
It's possible to own one in the People Republic of California.
Hobbie, for "cheap" mags, I'd hook you up, but they're all at home. Seriously though, go onto www.brownells.com , become a member for free, and order a handful of Magpul PMags. They're $13 for the originals and $16.55 for the ones with the window. I carry them in combat, and so do a lot of other guys. Worth every penny. I haven't bought the old style USGI mags in a long time, but they used to be $10-15 a piece. Magpul is a better deal. Probably never have to replace the springs, whether you leave them loaded for a year or not. I've never, never had a magazine-related jam with them. Fun fact, we did a test at a range one day, and the springs, even after 6 months being loaded, have enough balls to flawlessly feed a M249 SAW firing cyclic.
As far as ammo, a lot depends on how much you plan to baby your rifle. $0.35 a round isn't bad for 5.56 right now. Especially if it's green-tip milsurp M855. When you're looking to stock up, do a search for "Brown Bear" and see what pops up. It's Russian made steel jacket. I've bought 62gr hollow-points and been very happy with them. I have had one malfunction (bad primer) in over 2500 rounds fired and don't see any additional wear because of the steel jacketing, so I recommend it. Last time around, www.cheaperthandirt.com had the best price.
As far as optics, an Aimpoint CompML2 should be a deal by now because everyone's buying the new CompM4. The only drawback is that it takes CR 1/3 batteries, which are hard to find. They last a long time, but it's best to pick up half a dozen when you find them (or when you order online). Also, it's a bit bulkier than some of the newer optics, but it's what we've issued in the past, so it's a good optic that'll take a beating. Otherwise, there's a huge variety of optics out there and you can spend as much or as little as you like. Do yourself a favor and stay away from NCStar and other Chinese knockoffs.
what the hell is the point in having a weapon like this? are you going to war or are you paranoid and think the country will be invaded any second?
i'm sorry for ranting but i think even semi-automatic handguns are over-doing it, no wonder there are so many shootings in the U.S. guns are so easy to get.
What the hell is the point of having a car that will do more than 65mph? No wonder there are so many traffic accidents in the US. What's the point of eating a meal with over 2000 calories? No wonder there are so many fat people in the US. Seriously, WTF? Guns, cars, food, power tools, dogs--it's all the same. Responsible use and ownership of ANYTHING is required to prevent people from getting hurt.
