Time Off and other stories

Listen to JengaJam tonight at 10:30 pm Eastern for our PAX 2009 recap with OboeCrazy.

Don't forget. Late Nite JengaJam's D&D4J Fantasy Football live online draft is tonight at 8:30pm Eastern! There's still time to join the league, if you're interested. ID is 871619 and password is "bignicebutt".

So, I've got 5 days worth of vacation time I've got to use by February 28, 2010 or it goes away. I was thinking about splitting it into 2 chunks since I'm not planning* on doing any big trips.

* as always, subject to change.

Rather than put up a poll, I'll ask for suggestions. I was originally thinking of taking a week off towards the end of October. Thought maybe I could drive up to Boston, visit my cousin and some of you Boston-based folks. But then, are any of you planning anything for New Year's? I know for a fact I owe someone special a visit to Connecticut. Is CastleCon still happening soon?

I do need to save more money, so I'm guessing any flights for over $150 are out, which just about rules out everything outside of driving distance.

Another thought occurs to me. Even if it's getting cold, it might make sense to get away from the hustle and bustle of everything for a week. Just get a cabin somewhere to be alone with my thoughts. Or at least catch up on the journal prompts from a while ago.

I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks for reading,

If you want to get away, go camping.

A week might be a bit long to stock provisions though.

Alternatively, you can take a train to Vermont or something and just hang out at a bed and breakfast.

NV's idea is good.

Camping is low-cost (if you already have the gear) and gets you out and away from it all.

Leave the iPhone behind.

Camping is fun, but think of the time of year. Being cold in a tent at night isn't so great. I've been there times before.

I've only been to Boston a few times, but I've had a great time on every trip. I would say Boston is always a good idea, especially when you have friends or family to visit in the area.

I'd love to commute down to NYC, meet up with a bunch of RT Folk and celebrate the New Year. It's an idea I've been cooking up for a while now, but I never really mentioned it publically until...just now.

Come visit DU_Stars_Fan and me. Roadblock would probably come in for the weekend if you did.

...that's all I got. Also, I have no practical way for that to be accomplished given your cost guidelines.

I want to get everyone in Connecticut together during October for a possible trip to Lake Compounce.
Wanna come? (even though it's a long drive for just an amusement park)

I'd say save it for either Halloween or New Years. You'll need at least a day or two to recover from those holidays.

I agree with dark, though I would include myself and the other Texans in the festivities.
