Oh right.
Yeah, sort of forgot to update all of you since fanExpo.
So. what up?
FanExpo was awesome. As always. This year was praticularly cool. it was also a bit odd, usually I go to FanExpo alone. Last year I ran into a few friends, but mainly I was there by myself. This year, it was almost like I ran into a friend or someone I knew every ten minutes. So that was neat. Plus I knew a about five people who were working at different booths, (local film makers, plus the shadow casts had a booth) it was fun. One friend (the girl who killed me in Jurassic Park) was a "booth babe", and another Jurassic Park cast member and I had fun teasing her all weekend. We'd go by the both and she's say hi, and we'd both pretend to look shy and say "oh my god, a booth babe talked to us!" then she'd glare at us and tell us to shut up.
By the way, for people who don't know, a booth babe is pretty girl a company hires to stand behind the table at a both, and promote their product. Because a hot girl telling you about a new movie, or asking you to sign up for a mailing list, gets a lot more results then a some guy. Especially at a con. Geeks are a lonely crowd. I can make that joke because I personally know.
Didn't take many photos this year. It was so crowded it was hard to take photos, plus I was either rushing to see stuff or hanging with friends.
Did grab a photo with Walter Koeing, or Chekov from the original star trek.
I thought these two dudes had awesome costumes. It's Silent Bob, Geekers, and Kevin Smith. (none of these people are actually Kevin Smith.)
and I had to get another photo with Lloyd Kaufman. He wrote Make your own Damn Movie, a book that was my own personal bible during 2007 and 2008. I still read it from time to time. Great book, buy it.
That's about it folks for photos.
Another cool thing about FanExpo is all the free stuff they give out. I have so many posters. Including an awesome full sized Punisher War Zone poster (alright movie, KICK ASS poster.) also a poster for Cabin in the Woods, Joss Whedon's new film.
Iots of other cool freebies, like Green lantern rings that light up, black lantern rings, more buttons then you can pin to anything, a bunch of free comics, and the one that made me laugh really hard, Watchmen condoms. Yes, they are blue. Someone is a marketing genius.
Sorry for the lack of... posting recently. Been busy. Life's kicked into over drive.
I leave for England in two weeks. (family holiday, going for three weeks. I have a laptop though, I'll be online for some of it.)
And besides that, many other things going on. There's a play I'm running lights for this weekend. It's a local armature dramatic society that just started up. This is their first play. They originally shanghaied me to be the lead actor, but I quickly stepped down, due to the fact I didn't have time to memories 30 pages of dialogue in a month, with all the other stuff I'm doing. so I stepped down, but offered to help with the lighting. Which is turning into a lot of work. We open on Friday, and we still don't have the lights set up, let alone timed so the tech crew knows the cues to turn them on and off. Lot of work to be crammed into the next two days.
So... other big news. This one I sort of should have announced a while ago. some people know, people who have me on facebook probably know.
I moved to Toronto.
Yeah.
Moved. I'm still out in the country part time, but I'm living part time in Toronto, the big city.
it's a change alright. It's nice to be able to go into Toronto and not have to crash on someones couch or come home late as hell on the GO train. Photos of my room when it's a bit more moved in.
But yeah, moved to the city. Have more big news coming soon, need to have a few more meetings before the next project gets an announcement. I learned my lesson with Deadline, don't announce stuff till it's 100%. and while this one is 100%, I've gotten in the habit of waiting. But this one is big. Oh yes.
Also have a two leads on getting a part time job. (kinda need one to pay for the new apartment.) so I may be joining the great mass of bastards known as the employed. Not exactly looking forward to it, but it may be interesting. I'll be working at a theatre (theatre that shows plays, not movies) if either lead pays off. One seems like it's fairly solid.
Networking is the single greatest skill anyone can ever learn. Keep that in mind people, always be nice, always try to help people out, and always try to keep in touch with your friends. You have no idea what or who will come back some day to help you. in any business, ESPECIALLY the film business, it's not what you know, it's who.
But it's late, and I have massive amounts of work to do to get this lighting rig set up by tomorrow. I'll try to post more updates sometime soon.
Peace, Charlie.
