CVS HeroFirst let me give you a bit of backstory.A long, long time ago (5yrs) I used to work retail. I used to be a cashier for the local supermarket. "The customer is always right, even when they're wrong" is what the managers used to tell us. As an employee, we could never talk back to, raise our voice to, say something in the wrong tone, make a snide remark, or even look the wrong way at the customer. No matter how uppity and rude they got, we always had to put on a smile. If we did something, said something, we'd be in trouble. I hated this. Fast forward to present day. I'm at CVS, picking up a few things. I get in the line to check out and wait patiently for my turn. There is a woman standing next to one of the self-checkout registers, visibly annoyed. She's sighing, mumbling to herself, tapping her fingers, fidgeting, etc. So as i wait in this huge ass line. She starts to get more pissed off and annoyed. She starts saying (loud enough for us to hear) "I just want my dollar", "I can't stand here all night". The cashier (who can't be more than 17) says the manager will be right over, as soon as she finishes up with the other customer. A bit more time passes, and I progress closer to the register. Self Checkout lady has not been seen yet, as the manager is still dealing with the other customer. The self checkout lady is now really pissed off, to the point where she starts dropping F-bombs and is creating a scene in front of about 30 people. (Mind you, over a dollar.) So its now my turn to checkout and I'm at the register right next to her. She's still pissed off and shouts, "I JUST WANT MY FUCKING DOLLAR". I've had enough, I know the staff can't say anything or they'll get in trouble, I've been there before, I know how it is. So fortunately for them I'm not CVS staff. So I grab my wallet, pull out a dollar, hand it to her and say. "Here's your dollar, now shut-up and go home." To which every single person who in CVS, staff and customers, applauded me as she left the store. It was a good feeling |
