Job UpdateI never wrote about my job situation even though lots happened. For the past month or so, I've been working 4-8am shifts for 4 days a week. I did stock. It was...not the best job for a college grad with mountains of debt, but it was something. I had 2 parts to my interview and the first part, the woman didn't know what she was doing. It was kinda funny. She skipped the questions she didn't understand. I lolled in my head. I've had 5 temp agencies looking for work for me. Scratch that, I found 5 temp agencies and am in their systems, but I doubt 2 of them are even looking for stuff for me. Not once did they call me with any info or anything. The only contact we had was when I called for an update only to have them say, "no." Times are tough, I get that, but what a waste of time. At least one temp agency finally pulled through. But I'm getting ahead of myself. So I had this one temp agency...get me an interview with C.H. Robinson. Which is a career for sure. Overnight phone tech support for freight trucks. Awesome pay. I had a preliminary interview at the temp agency office that went well. I had another a few days later at C.H. Robinson. I must've wrote down the directions wrong when I copied them. It makes me so mad because I know exactly where it is. So I went the wrong way. Obviously I was way late because I noticed it at the time of the interview. I called the guy and he said I'd have to get in touch with someone to reschedule. I was so depressed. I moped for hours in my bed. I ended up playing Halo 3 for the rest of the day to get my mind off of it. I got 79/79 achievements though. Awesome. That made my day. I was only a little mad at myself for missing the interview after that. I tried calling the temp agency to reschedule but I found out later their phones were down. So no dice. Got a call the next day and found out because of that, I lost the job. Now, that would have made me about kill myself, but luckily something else happened that day. What happened was...I got a call from another temp agency. I had an interview with Lifetouch about a month ago. Four had an interview and two were selected. The guy liked me and I really didn't mess up, but he didn't choose me. Then I guess a girl burned out on the overnight shift. So I got a call. I had to go in and just reaffirm my availability and willingness to do the shift and the job was mine. I was a little worried because they kept asking "are you sure?" and I kept saying, "yeah, i guess." which isn't really confident so I had to correct myself and say a firm yes. But I really can't know because I've never had this shift...so we'll see. I'll go as long as I can. I'm pretty sure I can handle it. I work best alone. I love peace and quiet. Basically I keep checking every hour and 2 hours these automated scripts to test if applications are down or not. If stuff breaks, I follow these directions to get the right people to fix it and move it along. Eventually I will be on call to field calls from Lifetouch (never customers) and get the right people involved. It's peachy keen. I've had 2 days of training during normal hours so far. This weekend I start my normal shift. 7pm-7am both Sat and Sun. It'll be interesting to see how it is, for sure. But facebook and twitter are blocked. So I'm screwed. I might bring some downloaded movies in (I can't stream) and my DS, and iPod touch, and a book. Whee. At least it's a job. |
