Let's find out Tomorrow...So at my new job, I get free time. I test systems on the hour and there's not much left to do when everything works and the tests take 5 minutes tops. I am almost finished reading Slaughterhouse-Five though. I've read more internet articles on everything under the sun that I could care to read, also. And slickdeals.net is a nightly visit at least. Lifehacker, boingboing (gonna phase that out, it sucks), and mental floss as well. But a couple nights ago I went to newegg and built a theoretical computer. Just to see. My monitor is at least 5 years old and 17" is beginning to feel minuscule. So the monitor was the important upgrade I want. Monitor, BAM I kept going and went with this: Case Power Strip (innuendo!) Motherboard Video Card (x2 for SLI) Power Supply Quad-Core Processor 4GB of RAM (x2) 640GB Hard Drive Wireless Keyboard Wireless Laser Mouse DVD Drive Sound Card CPU Cooler Speakers = $1,872.08 total. I sat on that idea for a couple days. Planning on maybe buying a part per month or something like that, starting with the monitor. Then I thought...that's a lot of money. How much are Macs? So I took a trip on the information superhighway where "Windows" people normally don't venture. And I see those fancy dancy iMacs with the computer in the monitor. Blows my mind. I always thought my school just hid the towers under the floor (really). I see they start as low as $1200, but I would probably want one that lines up with the newegg PC price. So I spend all night reading about them. I get this idea to put away a chunk of money every month from my job and getting it in like a year or so. Then after work last night/this morning, I went to church with my mom and stepdad. I told her my idea. She's always been on my case about my student loans and I'm borderline depressed about them. I have no idea how the future will play out and I'll probably be homeless. So after I told her my idea, and all about the iMac, she said the exact opposite. "Let's both go get one! I want a mac too! Let's get them now!" Of course we were at church, and I had to sleep all day to work all night (now), so I didn't want to go that day. She said yeah, of course not. But I couldn't believe it. Her point is I might as well do it now before the bills come and then I won't want to buy anything ever. Makes sense to me. I don't know if I'll feel guilty about it though. I usually do pretty well with buyer's remorse, and not have it. And the iMac's new screen is 27". Unbelievable. So hopefully we can go to the Apple Store tomorrow when she's off work. Who knows, maybe I'll buy one? Then I should figure out what do with with my old computer if I get one. Edit: New plan. Get hired at Apple as a Specialist as soon as possible to work on my days off. Use discount on iMac. Maybe. |
