i saw ani difranco like 12 years ago in concert. my old roomate was a big fan of hers. she would always play her songs when we took road trips, it really grew on me.

Ditto on both counts. This reminds me of trying to do 'Letter to a John' at an open mic one time. I played it and sang it ok, but it just felt so wrong. Also, I will never forgive commercial radio for playing the hell out of the 32 Flavors cover, but pretty much ignoring Ani altogether.
I love her song 'Both Hands', but the one which impresses me the most is 'Self Evident', because she says everything about 9/11 that everyone was whispering behind their hands. She is a brave woman and yes, even more hot because of that. Her song 'Dilate' has the lines which pulled me through the worst year of my life, coincidentally, when I was 19:
