Don't buy from Gamestop

So I had $20 store credit for Gamestop. I decided to put that towards the Hardened edition of MW2, making it only $60 out of pocket.

Later, GS starts running a new trade-in promotion, 25% extra credit towards MW2. I bring in a game, only to find out I can't put anything down towards MW2 as I've already paid off the entire balance. I can put my trade towards another pre-order with the 25% bonus now; then I just talk to the manager on the day MW2 launches to get things straightened out. I called GS customer service and get the number for the district manager. I call and leave a message but never hear back from her. I decide to just wait to launch and in the meantime I trade-in 3 games for $56.

I go in today to talk to the store manager, only to find out that GS has stolen my money. I can not apply the $56 in pre-orders towards MW2. If I cancel my pre-order, I will get the $80 balance back as store credit. That $60 credit card payment will not be refunded. I call CS again, each store has it's own policy and corporate can't do anything. I call the district manager and she's not in.

tl;dr Gamestop took my $60 for an item that they haven't given me. They won't give me my money back, they'll only give me store credit.

EDIT
Called the credit card company to dispute this. I have the receipt from Day 1 showing how much I paid in store credit and how much I paid with my credit card. I have the receipt from the day I first tried to cancel my pre-order. And I have phone records showing the attempts I made at contacting the district manager.

Sounds a like the time I got screwed over by Future Shop. My Xbox had a faulty lens that scratched my games to crap and when I noticed it I had seven or eight games wrecked, and the xbox wouldn't read any other games, so I brought it back to them because I had an extended warranty through them, they replaced my xbox after two months of it being gone, but then said they weren't going to replace the games, stating that it 'wasn't their problem' even though I bought all the games there and had receipts for proof of purchase, and after about ten minutes of yelling at the manager they replaced my games too :)

Game Stop is bawls. I stopped going there when they started hassling me for trivial stuff when I bought something in their store. Whatever happened to Funcoland???

Your game stop people suck. Ours is cool though. We bought a copy of tales of symphonia fo GC a few months ago bur it sat on our shelf for a while we just put it in last week and it wouldn't play. We went back to GS and at first they said we couldn't do anything but buy another copy but then the manager recognized Ronnie and said we could just have the other copy they had which plays like a dream.

They also let us swap our ps3 in after we tookit home and it wouldn't play. We had preordered it so they even had to give us one an employee had ordered.

I think it really depends on the store.

I hear all sorts of horror stories about Gamestop, but the ones in Santee have never been anything but good to me.

I can understand offering store credit for defective merchandise or other returns. But offering store credit when you fucked up is shitty. If a store fucks up that badly I am not inclined to shop there ever again. I don't want store credit for your shitty store with its incompetent staff. They should give you your money back. BBB that shit.

It's times like this that I regret every buying anything from Gamestop, ever. Normally I would buy from Walmart or something, but they were actually sold out of MW2. So I had to go to the evil place.

That's crazy. It would have been bad enough if they wouldn't give you a cash refund if you were returning something unopened, but not to have got the item in the first place....

I work at a local game store where our sole purpose is to beat out the local Gamestop... it's not really that hard.

I as well had a problem with gamestop with Modern Warfare and store credit. This was the first time gamestop has given me trouble, so I guess I can forgive... but from what I'm hearing from a lot of people, I better start looking for a new game store.
