Happy SurpriseWent in to talk to my academic advisor today and found out a few things that made me happy.First, the 20 or so credits I'd transferred from my previous degree and which had mysteriously disappeared off my transcript have happily re-appeared on the list, saving me an entire semester and a half of electives. Second, I only need to take four more 300+ level philosophy classes for my honours degree requirements, one of which must be in the history category (PHIL classes in my college are divided into A - History, B - Problems and C - Value), and three other electives, including one non-humanities course at the 200+ level. Easily done in one more year, I'll be graduating next spring and on to whatever graduate work I fall into. Lastly, as a two-parter, the smoking crater in my transcript is a 2% (That's not a typo, I got a two percent final mark. Divorce is hell on your academic career sometimes.) in my honours seminar (PHIL 420) can be fixed with a do-over involving the department designating the 320 as a 420 for my benefit. (apologies, that sentence was probably not the clearest it could have been) The really ego-boosting part of the thing was that even with the crater in my transcripts, I still have a WPA that puts me over the requirement for my honours designation, so the do-over will launch me into scholarship territory once grad or law school comes around. |
