War PoemsIn one of my classes today we mentioned war poems. This got me thinking to the three that I believe or the best:The Charge of the Light Brigade by Tennyson For those who don't know about this here is a youtube video showing the charge and here is the wiki summary. Essentially the Light Brigade charged into a position that had russian artillery and infantry to their front and flanks. Dulce Et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen. This was written by the poet Wilfred Owen who fought in WWI. Sadly he was killed at the Battle of Sambre only a week before the war ended. This last one I hold close to my heart. A tradition in cavalry, particulary my unit, is to learn the poem Fiddlers Green. Its kinda hard to describe how I feel about this poem. I consider it to be an important part of why I am a cavalryman. In cav we also say that our fellow troopers who have fallen have simply "gone to fiddlers green". LINKED MEDIA
